AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Iranian Foreign Ministry deplored Paraguay's action to designate the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) as a "terror organization", describing the move as unlawful and regrettable.
Director-General of the America Department of the Foreign Ministry Issa Kameli strongly condemned the Paraguayan government for humiliating action against the IRGC.
He considered the move as illegal and unjustifiable, and in violation of international legal rules and norms.
The diplomat expressed regret over adherence by Paraguay to the anti-Iran policies of the genocidal and the Israeli regime, and emphasized the international responsibility of the Paraguayan government for this unlawful act.
Paraguay has formally designated the IRGC as a terrorist organization. In addition to the IRGC designation, Paraguay also expanded its 2019 designations of the armed wings of Hezbollah and Hamas to include the entirety of both organizations.
The administration of President Donald Trump as well as Tel Aviv have applauded the move by the South American country.
Iranian officials have termed the IRGC as the largest anti-terrorist force in the world, stressing that terrorism would have plagued entire Europe if the IRGC had not taken action against Daesh (also known as ISIS or ISIL) terrorists.
Tehran has emphasized that the IRGC has been involved in the fight against terror more than any other military force, adding that the entity is threatened by the sponsors of terrorism, above all the Israeli regime and the United States.
Kameli said that the political action by the Paraguayan government is a dangerous heresy that was designed and implemented at the insistence of the Zionist regime to distract public opinion from the genocide in the Gaza Strip.
He added that therefore, it constitutes the complicity of Paraguayan policymakers with criminals who are being prosecuted by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
